Fire Department

The Holland Fire Department is responsible for issuing agricultural & seasonal burning permits, camp/cooking fire permits, blasting permits, above/below ground storage tank installation & removal permits, black powder storage permits, dumpster permits, residential solar system permits, mobile food truck & vendor inspection certificates, smoke detector / carbon monoxide inspection certificates, various fuel storage tank inspections, and annual life safety / fire prevention inspections (All commercial properties, businesses, public facilities, rental properties, and food establishments must schedule a yearly inspection to comply with 527 C.M.R. 1.00). Open Burning in Massachusetts is permitted strictly between January 15 and May 1. A permit must be obtained daily from the Holland Fire Department's online portal (link below) before any burning begins. Fires may only be lit after 10:00 a.m. and completely extinguished by 4:00 p.m., all fires must be at least 75 feet from any dwellings or structures. The fire must be attended at all times by the permit holder, who must be at least 18 years old. You must keep a hose, water source, rake, and shovel on hand while burning.

Allowed Materials: Only brush, cane, driftwood, and forestry debris are allowed to be burned.

Prohibited Materials: Leaves, grass, hay, stumps, building materials, and trash are always strictly illegal to burn in Massachusetts.
